As you can Imagine I was somewhat skeptical when I looked at the ROVER. This guitar has EXCELLENT sound that I absolutely did not expect. I compared this guitar to the martin backpacker(btw, I love Martin Guitars) and not only is the sound better but the action is unbelievable. All for under $200.00. This is a great buy especially at this price. I can’t put this guitar down!

Joyce
I’ve played Washburn’s since I started and currently own 4 of them so was pretty comfortable ordering this without playing it first. It’s a very playable guitar that took virtually no set up (minor truss rod adjustment) with nice action. The tone gets a little getting used to – a bit like a ukelele from the player position but when someone across from me was playing it I was surprised over the projection and better than anticipated richness (given it’s size). Better than the Martin backpacker in that it’s a more conventional shape and easier to play – and, I think, sounds fuller. Great travel case – it would take a lot to do some damage – and nice accessory package. Came very close to giving it 5 stars – particularly for the price. Don’t think you could do better.

The fit and finish are excellent but most importantly the neck setup is the best I have ever seen on a new guitar out-of-the-box at any price. After playing it for one day I had no choice but to take my Martin in for a neck setup to match it, or at least come close — cost me $600. A travel guitar needs to have an excellent case and this one does. It’s made to fit in the overhead but I would have no qualms about shipping this in the belly of the beast. The neck and head stock get very good support in this case. Within hours of receiving this guitar I installed a strap button on the heel, this is essential for holding the guitar and Washburn would do well to make this a standard feature.

I own a bunch of guitars (Les Paul, Strat, schecter, ect). I wanted a guitar that I could throw in the car and take anywhere. Something small with a full size neck and decent sound. Something I could play during lunch in the middle of work to keep my skills up. When I first looked at travel guitars many of the good ones were hundreds of dollars. Then I found this. At first I was skeptical. How good could a 100 dollar travel guitar play or sound….It came in the mail, I opened it and boy was I impressed. This thing is solid! The neck is very similar to my strat neck and very easy to play even with my big hands. The sound is awesome for stock pickups. In comparison better than anything that comes stock on lets say a mexican strat, just to give you a frame of reference. The paint job is great and looks like a cherry red muscle car finish. I love this thing, its even become my arm chair guitar and the action was perfect right out of the box!

In this material we take a look at the history of the electric bass guitar. When talking regarding bass history the original person that people commonly think of is Leo Fender. He is credited with introducing the world to the Precision bass in 1951. The bass was called a Precision bass because of the accuracy of the notes. Players were competent to play notes that were perfectly in tune because of the presence of frets on the electric bass guitar. To a good deal of people, this was the original real electric bass. This bass was mass-produced and very recognizable when it was produced by Fender and up to this day it still is.

But while we give Leo Fender his dues for creating the innovative electric bass, it ought to be said that way before 1951 there were at least five other prototypes that resembled the design of today’s electric bass guitar. In talking in regards to the history of the bass guitar we ought to talk with regards to the double bass. In fact, today’s bass is a direct descendant of the double bass, dating way back to the 17th century. Although it was in truth in the 20th century that one with a more practical design was created.

When talking with regards to bass guitar history mention will have to be made of Lloyd Loar, known for designing the original electric double bass in the 1920s while working for Gibson. The bass used an electro-static pickup but there was no practical way of hearing it play. Unfortunately, bass amplification still had a long way to go.

The evolution of the bass guitar now takes us to the early 1930s when Paul Tutmarc built a more practical bass in terms of size. The basi one came with a pickup and was the size of a cello but was too heavy, so the designed was changed to that of a guitar. This 42 inches long solid body bass was made of black walnut and came with piano strings and a pickup.

A few years later, in the mid 1930s, conventional firms like Lyon & Healy, Rickenbacker and Gibson started out marketing basses that, altho less bulkier than the standard double bass, were still tall, unfretted and upright.

Around 1940 was the firstborn time a huge distributor handled the electric bass. The distributor was L.D.Heater Music Co. in Portland Oregon, and the basses were fictitious by Paul Tutmarc. This was a fretted instrument that was no longer to be played upright, but horizontal. It came with a pickup and was much littler than earlier versions.

It was only then that Leo Fender came up with the modern electric bass. As said at the beginning of our discussion on bass guitar history, it was the year 1951. In the year 1957 the pickguard and headstock were redesigned and the pickup was changed to a split pickup. This took us to the year 1960 when the Jazz bass was designed. Unlike the Precision bass, it came with two discerned pickups. The progressed bass guitar became very popular.

The primary 6 string bass was produced in 1959 by Danelecto and the primary 5 string in 1964 by Fender. The introductory fretless was formulated in 1965 by Ampeg, and in 1968 an 8 string bass by Hagstroem. Carl Thompson is credited with building the firstborn fretless 6 string bass in 1978.

Many developments have taken place since then. For instance, Ned Steinberger introduced a headless bass in 1979. In 1987, the Guild Guitar Corporation launched the fretless Ashbory bass. This bass used silicone rubber strings and a piezoelectric pickup to achieve a “double bass” sound. The bass was very short, only 18 inches long.

Throughout the years, pickups have also evolved. In addition to single coil pickups, you now have various others such as humbuckers, hybrid pickups, passive and active pickups. These seem to be competent of devising each tone imaginable, from pure signals to the grittiest dirt sounds.

The electric bass seems to have become more popular today than ever before. For instance, when someone refers to a bass it’s more mutual to think of the electric bass than the upright acoustic.

The thin coat of white finish barely covers the raw wood. Yet a couple of feet away from the guitar the look is workmanlike and OK. b) Love the Gibson tuners! c) Action is reasonably low and fast. Wonder if I can tweak it a bit lower without adding fret buzz?
c) Frets seem nicely seated. But they are noticeable along the outside edge of the fretboard. d) Pickup switch does not seat quite solidly in the treble position. Middle and Rhythm positions are fine.
e) The pickguard seemed somewhat scratched in a reflective light. There was no stick-on plastic protection on it. I think it is simply one very cheap piece of plastic. f) Light as a bird. That’s important to me. g) Neck is pleasingly slim. h) Love the fret access up past the 15th fret.
i) P-90s have almost as much power and sustain as humbuckers. The bridge pickup is a bit darker in sound than I’d expected. Punched up the treble a bit on the Blues Junior amp and all is good. j) Input jack clicks solidly.
Overall, a keeper. I think time spent playing her will bring us even closer together.
Ps: Epiphone hardshell case seems a good fit and of good quality; happy to have it because Gibson necks are vulnerable.

The P90s have that Pete Townshend edge. I was surprised that they are also as hot as the 57 classic humbuckers on my other Gibsons-definitely hotter than Fender single coils. The P90s can be a bit noisy as is the case with all single coil pups. The guitar is lighter than other SGs I’ve tried and is surprisingly well-balanced. Not neck heavy like most SGs. Effortless to pick up and easy on the shoulders. The 60s neck is very thin and a major reason I bought it. The setup out of the box was perfect. Interestingly, the natural finish is less “finished” than the Les Paul version. It has a rougher feel – perfectly fine for playing and has a workingman’s vibe to it. However, I can see how some people might be surprised if they have tried other SGs. I did note that small scratches appeared on it rather quickly near the jack despite my careful handling; makes me wonder if the rough finish is also a bit delicate too. (Actually, the guitar would probably look good with a lot of dings in it.) The gig bag is fine but nothing special. All being said, I’m completely satisfied with the guitar. Tremendous value for the money.

W. Milyard
I have received two Gibson specials now.
I returned one LP that was so bad I just could not keep it.
This one is playable, but with the over wound pickups has to much attack for me.
I also received the guitar in a non set up state with dials going every direction but the
correct direction which shows me that (as I have always thought), Gibson could care less about
these low end products.
The fret work is not good as you get finger rash the closer you get to the bout.
The frets sit way to low.
The neck is very wide and this plays into preference, but not mine.
I actually have an Epi SG with Hums and a Gibson SG3 that both have better action than this guitar.
I also have an SX LP style two soap that plays much better than this guitar at a price tag of $135.00!
YOU ARE PAYING FOR THE NAME WITH THIS GUITAR, NOTHING MORE.
To top it off, the free bag that comes with the guitar while looking good has a very poor design in that
the zipper only runs along the front side and does not turn in at the head or bout bottom so you get to jam
the guitar in, or yank it out and scrape your nice new Gibson guitar on the zipper.
I do know what I am talking about, as I also have a couple of Custom shop gibsons at over 3K each, and 58 other electric guitars by different manufacturers, so I know what you should get for this price range. Don’t get me wrong, I would never expect 3K quality out of a special, but would expect as much as any other $700.00-$800.00 guitar and you definitely don’t get it with this guitar, or any special that I have had any experience with.
If you are just into the Gibson name, then go for it, and put it in the bag in a far away corner with the rest of your collection.

Eastaway
I bought my first set of drums recently, a very loud Premier set. I was rather nervous about playing them in my condo– even though the units next door on both sides were empty, I really didn’t want to upset anyone. I began looking around for a product that would allow me to learn to play without being loud enough to disturb anyone a room or more away.

I decided to try this Vic Firth pack, and I’m very glad I did.

First, lets get through the potential negatives: There will obviously still be some noise, as there has to be enough volume to allow you to hear the difference in tone between the drums. I’d say the noise reduction is 75% to 80% on the toms and bass, 90-95% on the cymbals (80-90 on high-hat), and 60% on the snare (unless you disable the snare mechanism, then it’s the same reduction as the toms). This is perfectly acceptable to me, as it really is difficult to hear the drums being played 2 or more rooms away and even though they’re still audible from a room away, even the lightest sleeper would still be able to fall asleep.

There is slightly less stick response, which is impossible to get around. I actually view this as a positive as I imagine everyone who uses this product will be using it to practice, and having less bounce forces you to focus on your technique a little bit more.

Finally, I can imagine that the product will start to wear down after a while. It’s inevitable with anything to do with drums. I imagine that intense drumming and heavy hitting will wear them down in 6-9 months (especially the snare), but standard drummers will probably get a lot more use out of them.

Everything else about this product is absolutely fantastic. They’re supremely easy to install, they look great, they’re big enough on the cymbals to not have to worry about missing, and they fit all their respective drums perfectly. The noise reduction is better than what I was expecting, and they still allow you to hear the various tones of the respective drums, which is very important.

I would definitely buy this product again.

Biggs
Great drum mutes, made it possible to finally play my set in a four unit house. Just what i was looking for. You can still hear the different tones of each drums. My only complaint is that the cymbals don’t sound too great, but i think that’s unavoidable. All in all a great product that i highly recommend.

Condon
If you need a muting system to be able to practice on your kit without disturbing everyone in the house/apartment, this is the best product I could find. I’ve tried other muting systems (some much more expensive and difficult to apply) and this one does the job perfectly.

I have more drums and cymbals on my kit than just the sizes provided, but they are a perfect fit for: 14″ snare, 12/13/16″ toms, 22″ bass, 14″ hi-hats, 16″ crash, 20″ ride. I didn’t have to cut them to size or modify the mute pads in any way. From box to drum and done.

– The hi-hat is perfect, just close your hi-hat and lock it in place and you’ll get no noise (seems obvious, huh?).
– The snare is muted enough that it still sounds like a snare but 1/10th the sound (not an exact audio output measurement, I’m using that ratio for illustrative purposes).
– The toms are muted to the point where you almost can’t tell a tone difference.
– The crash and ride mutes are a perfect fit for my 16″ crash and 20″ ride and I can still tell them apart.
– The bass is muted enough that I’m sure if you put this on the first floor, no one would know you were playing. I’m on the second floor so people can hear the light tapping and the foot step of the bass but not the sound of the drums themselves. One person said it’s almost if I’m tapping my hands on my knees and stomping my foot.

BL: If you’re looking for a muting system, this is the product for you.

I read someone’s review who went berserk about the smell. All I have to say is that the smell isn’t as bad as that person made it out to be (a bit melodramatic about it if you ask me). And the other thing is… oh ya: You are buying a rubber padded muting system – so heads up… they are going to smell like rubber.
